1. First of all, just look out for it in places where land and water are together, or else you will be up to your thighs in muddy sand.
2. DO NOT PANIC!!! ... or you will sink faster.
3. Distribute your weight and try to crawl out SLOWLY!

II. How to find north without a compass:
- If you have an analog watch, don't check the time, check your direction. Hold your watch parallel to the floor and face the 12 to the sun. The invisible North/South line will go somewhere between the hour hand and the 12. You have to look at the direction of the sun to figure out which one is the real North.
- Look at the sun to find North. It rises in the East and sets in the West. Be patient and look at the direction of the sun. You'll soon find North.
